Royal Festival Hall, London, 11th March: Last week saw a host of British Asian, Urban and International talent come together to celebrate what has been a phenomenal year for the British Asian music industry.
The night belonged to Brit Asian star Jay Sean, who cleaned up all four of his nominations to pick up the Best Male, Best Album, Best Video and Best Urban act awards. The night capped a prolific year for Houslow-born Sean, who shot to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 last year, becoming the highest selling British artist in America since Elton John.

Backstage there was a lot going on, with everyone getting to the venue at 8am sharp. There was a lot going on as people were arriving at different times. I don’t think people actually realise the amount of time and effort that is put into putting together an awards cermony of this scale and all hats go off to everyone involved.
On my travels backstage I caught up with the many celebs such as RDB, Roch Killa and Surinder Ratten who were very pleasant and patient while they were getting there names signed and being issued with their passes. This is a rare thing to see has most celebs feel they dont have to cue up and and wait and can walk straighrt in. Despite everyone being under a lot of pressure there was a good vibe in dressing rooms and corridors. One person that made my night was Heather played by Cheryl Fergison in Eastenders, it was interesting to see a few of the Eastenders caste there on the night saw the likes of ex eastenders Jimmy Mistry and Preeya Kalidas who plays Amera.
I managed to get 5minutes and grab some late lunch and saw The Grewal family there, I managed to have a catch up with kaki aka Gurdip and Jeet. Asked them how they found the whole event and they said they really had a good time they kids were worn out but had an amaing time. Look out for jeet’s single which is out very soon, The Mix up will bring you more detailsand exclusive on that in the weeks to come!
