Starring Micahel Jai White as the lead character, Black Dynamite is an explosive comedy spoof on the Blaxploitation genre of films from the 70’s.
It does well to make fun of the genre and bring with it a whole host of familiar faces from African-American cinema. Including small roles for actors Bokeem Woodbine and Arsenio Hall.
Black Dynamite, at first glance may not seem like everyone’s cup of tea but give it a bit of your time and you will no doubt be in stitches.
From the ten foot leaps to the sound microphone hanging over the head of and distracting our main character. Black Dynamite can often border on ridiculous.
But it’s the deliberate ridiculousness that is its charm.
Check out the trailer and if you find yourself laughing then this film is for you. If not then wait till the DVD/Sky TV release. But either way, when you finally see it I think it will be one you quite enjoy.
It’s a tale of good guys, bad guys, martial arts, girls and car chases. Where this differs from more recent spoofs like Scary Movies, Disaster Movie and all the others that have been out over the past few year, is this film pretends to be serious which makes it even more hilarious.
With references to “The Man” and calling The White House, The Honky House, on top of the fact that the Blaxploitation genre was not as popular this side of the Atlantic, I am not sure just how well this film will do in an ever so more “politically correct Britain”. But for those with knowledge of the Blaxploitation genre will no doubt find this film hilarious.
Recommended fun cinema
Sholanda: My momma said my daddy’s name was Black Dynamite.
Brickwilla: So did my momma!
Black Dynamite: Err, uhh, hush up little girls. A lot of cats have that name.
