Thursday 7th October 2010, The Mixup was welcomed to Urban Development’s Industry Takeover part Three.
The Industry Takeover events are all about empowering the next generation of music makers, moguls, students, DJs, singers, emcees and emerging industry professionals.
Industry Takeover is held monthly by Urban Development. Each month has a different topic/theme in which advice is given to young people who are seeking to make an impact in the music industry.
A captive audience are given the chance to ask questions and learn from the guest panel.
The panel is made up of experienced music industry insiders.
This events panel included:
Funk Butcher, the funky house DJ who has a weekly show on Rinse FM,
Marvin Harrison who hosts The Sunday Show, a weekly comedy event held in London,
Rachael Bee who has worked in the music industry for over 20 years including with Trevor Nelson on MTV’s Lick Party and Louise Pierre, who hosts events throughout Europe and has her own booking agency which includes The Heartless Crew.
This months showcase dealt with how to hold successful music events and avoid pitfalls such as police closure and the problems of the stigma surrounding different genres of music.
Louise Pierre gave some firsat hand accounts of the problems of dealing with certain stigmas while dealing with The Heartless Crew.
As always after the second half of the night is a showcase of musical talent from the urban music scene’s established and up and coming stars.
Getting the crowd hype this month was MC Versatile, Tenny Ten, A.L, SONENI and Mr Midus.
MC Versatile is best known for his track with Crazy Cousinz ‘Funky Anthem’ and work with Katy B
Tenny Ten is a fast rising performer from Wolverhampton who has recently toured with Mr Hudson and Chipmunk.
A.L and Soneni are two female solo singers with incredible voices.
Mr Midus is an upcoming UK based dancehall artist and winner a former UMA best Newcomer award
We were able to get a few minutes with MC Versatile and also Tenny Ten back stage.
