The Losers – Film Review
Director Sylvain White adapts the Vertigo comic about a team of mercenaries who wage war after being double-crossed in the field and left to die by the CIA. Clay (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Jensen (Chris Evans), Roque (Idris Elba), Pooch (Columbus Short), and Cougar (Óscar Jaenada), make up the team known as ‘TheLosers’.
For me, this “elite” U.S. team wasn’t so “elite”. This movie was mostly a gun action explosive trip, where the high-tech equipment was just thrown out of the window. The characters roles were not explained very well at all. These five men that wanted their lives back, but what was their life like before the double cross. There was very little about this film to call “elite”.
The movie was fairly enjoyable but was letdown by certain areas. The trailer makes the film seem a little more than it actually is after actually watching the movie.
It does have some really good funny moments but sadly it all goes on and off like a light switch throughout the film making it drag a little.
If you love cinema food this movie will be worth watching or if you’re stuck for what to do one evening there are worse ways to spend a couple of hours.
Ultimately this could have been better in so many ways.

An elite U.S. team is sent into Bolivia on a search and destroy mission. On finding their target the elite team, called The Losers and lead by Clay (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), contact base and inform them of the target location. After they had made the request to send in a fighter jet and take out the enemy’s base Clay notices a school bus coming into the area. He takes a further look and realizes that there are children in the area.
He contacts base and informs them to cancel the mission and that there are kids presents. Base refuses so clay destroys the targeting scanner and tells base that the equipment is damaged.
Little to Clay’s knowledge he had not been speaking to his real base. The man on other side informed clay that what he did was a stupid thing and they know that there where children present at the site. The mission was still to go ahead and the children will die. Clay tries to contact the real base but communication had been cut.
So the team, Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Couga make the decision to save the children before the fighter jet arrives. They then jump into the car and make haste toward the enemies. On arriving they take out all the enemies while searching for the children. On finding the kids, one of the kids tells Clay that her brother is up stairs, so Clay tells his team to go and he’ll get the kids.
Making his way slowly upstairs Clay comes to a room. When entering the room standing in front of clay is the target that this mission was intended for. He stands there holding the kid with a blade to his neck.
Clay tells him to let the kid go and he’ll let him live, the man lets the kids go and tells clay they will kill you to.
As the other team get the children into the bus you hear two shots fired then clay comes out running with the kids. Getting on the bus and making haste, they hurry to clear the blast area. They hear the fighter jet fly over and it drops its bombs destroying the area. The bus gets caught in the blast range and is pushed over, everyone is ok.
The Losers arrive at their pick up point with the children as the chopper lands. The person on the chopper tells Clay they can’t take them all so clay tells the man to take the children and come back for them.
The children were on and are air lifted out, Clay and his team watched from the ground enjoying what they had done. As they watch the chopper fly away the fighter jet that bombed the previous target arrives and destroys the chopper with the children on bored. There and then Clay knew that this was meant for them and a decision was made that they died in that chopper and they couldn’t go back so they threw the tags into the debris and left there lives behind. Six months pass and Clay is determined on find out who that voice on the radio belonged to. His team members tell him to forget about it and move on as they can’t go back. Further down the line Clay noticed a girl following him after she confronts him and tells him that the lethal betrayal on him and his men was done by a powerful enemy known only as Max. She tells him as they are presumed dead, you have you chance to get your life’s back. The group makes plans to even the score and joins the mysteries Aisha, (Zoe Saldana)
